Nation Building Must Be St. Maarten’s Priority

Today we stand at a pivotal moment in history. The future direction of the world is already in motion. Our response cannot be fear. Our response must be faith, preparation, and action. We believe the catalyst for real change is nation building in every country and territory on earth. Every person deserves to feel a deep sense of belonging and respect in the land of their origin, and in the land in which they reside and have made their homes, by way of contributing to its positive economic growth. Every nation deserves to be built upon the strength of its ancestors, families, culture, and history, while growing strong, balanced, and resilient economies that serve all its people.

This vision is rooted in four (4) commitments:

1. Protect & Preserve. Through structured safeguards, we must restructure, amend, and upgrade the policies, laws, and ordinances of every nation in the best interest of our people, our economy, and our way of life. These laws must empower and protect our people first, ensuring equality, balance, fairness, and dignity for generations to come.

2. Empower & Educate. Special attention must be given to those who have been placed at deliberate disadvantages in their regions. We are called to prepare, educate, direct, and empower them. Strong, growing economies in all countries are not optional, they are the foundation for eradicating suffering and poverty.

3. Honor Our Past, Invest in Our Future. Our senior citizens must live out their days with quality, dignity, and respect. They are our living history. Our children must be properly developed, educated, and empowered, prepared to receive their inheritance and carry this mission forward long after we are gone.

4. Govern with Urgency & Vision. We place our very serious focus on having the 2026 Budget of Country St. Maarten approved on the floor of Parliament. This is how we get back to the business of the people of St. Maarten, to governing, and to our social, spatial planning, infrastructural, educational, and economic development.

The reality is that, as Country St. Maarten, we are just about to enter into the fourth quarter of our 2026 budgetary year. It is imperative that we move forward in having this 2026 Budget approved, since we are already, as a country, governing with the reality of having to daily face the real expenditures and revenues of an already running 2026 Budget. The responsible question we must now ask ourselves is this: other than just reducing realistic expenditures here and there for the remaining budgetary year 2026, should we not already be placing our focus on the eventual debate and approval of the 2027 Budget? There is where we will be able to responsibly have this 2027 Budget reflect our plans and vision in the best interest of all.

We must be focusing, preparing, and placing serious attention on all that is developing globally, and the very serious effects this can have on St. Maarten/Saint Martin, both the French and Dutch sides. We are already having to domestically face so many developments that have the potential of affecting our way of life and the growth of especially our St. Martin people and population. These are realities we have no choice but to accept, swiftly address, and take the very necessary and very difficult decisions on. Therefore, proactive structural planning, efficient decision-making, and leading with vision in the best interest of the overall well-being of our people and economy must be our focus and priority.

This work cannot be done by government alone. Business, community and social organizations, and the Church, being the people of God, have a huge role, task, and responsibility to play in all of this. Together, we build the bridge between policy and people, between heritage and hope.

I stand firmly with the people. We must all, together, always stand, fight, defend, and represent the people of St. Maarten/Saint Martin, our economy, and the overall well-being of all. We do understand that we cannot change everything, everywhere. But with the help, protection, and mandate of God Almighty laid down in the preamble of our St. Maarten Constitution, in the precious name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and by the power of the Holy Spirit, we will and must together do all that we can.

Our goal is clear: a world where all mankind can live in peace, love, and unity. A world where we protect, look out for, empower, support, and respect each other and our ways of life as human beings. A world where every piece of the puzzle is properly and perfectly connected to create the beautiful picture of a well-balanced life for all. From St. Maarten/Saint Martin, to the Caribbean region, to the nations of the world, the time to build is now. All for the well-being, protection, and preservation of humanity for the generations to come.

This mission for me is personal and is dedicated in loving memory of my parents, the late Carol Achken Richardson and the late Marie Elizabeth Richardson Brooks. We, their children, honor the values, strength, and love they instilled in us, the very foundation that has made us who we are today. We especially honor the memory of our mother on what would have been her heavenly birthday, last Saturday, August 22, 2026.

We have for years been trying to fix, repair, reverse, undo, or attempt to make it all happen from individual and idealistic perspectives, when we must be focusing on the overall picture. And this overall picture shows this land as one, taking decisions that will be in the best interest of St. Martin, North and South, French and Dutch.
