I must be living in the twilight zone, because impossible!

Dear Editor,
I must be living in the twilight zone, because it is impossible to believe that people can be this dense.
Impossible that we can cry about self-enrichment, hookin up friends and family, political favoritism and all the usual wrongdoings, then suddenly be blinded by angelic talk of integrity and a man being “good.”
Impossible that this situation was reportedly ongoing for well over a year, and that this so-called “good man” apparently condoned it because, at the time, it was not threatening his job.
Impossible that the “good man” mistakenly allowed the awarding of a contract to the husband of his Chief of Staff and his own campaign manager, then called it an oversight only after being called to Parliament.
I mean, impossible!
What is wrong with you people?
This is why some of you deserve the representation you get. It is impossible that people crucified former Minister Doran for allegedly helping friends and family with land, but now accept Minister Brug casually awarding a contract to his buddy because his buddy was, wait for it, a qualified local.
Really?
By that measure, Doran’s family and friends were also qualified and needy people who needed a home. So what was so wrong then? Or does outrage only apply depending on which politician, which party, which church face, or which “good man” is involved?
There is another Chief of Staff from a former minister currently before the courts and facing possible jail time over a contract awarded to her other half while she was Chief of Staff. And for that former minister, some people had the political knives ready.
But call this one a “good man,” let him get up and present a sob story, and suddenly people fall for it hook, line and sinker.
His “good man” routine was cancelled the moment he allowed his handlers to convince him that he was right. That there was nothing wrong. That this was just an oversight. That self-enrichment somehow becomes acceptable once the person benefiting is “qualified” and local.
The old people say, show me your friends and I will show you who you are.
So who brought this “good man” to this point of lowness? Who guided him here? Who advised the "good" man? It sure as heck wasn't me or you. You didn't put him there to award a contract to his campaign manager. But he did. You didn't put him to condone wrongdoing, but by his own words he condoned not just his own, but that of the PM allegedly. When exactly do we address that glaring lack of judgment? And will those who brought him low ever hold themselves accountable?
The school children are talking freely about how certain individuals allegedly extort others in the name of a minister, pretend to be the minister, or claim to be the de facto minister. The old people also say dogs know where fleas come from. Your judgment leaves a lot to be desired.
Impossible that our people have bought into the narrative and completely ignored the fact that, unless the Prime Minister had attempted to rid himself and his party of Brug and his handlers, nobody, none of you, would have known about any of this.
They would have continued like nothing was happening, right under your noses, allegedly getting rich off your backs while pretending all was well.
What a set of blind constituents we have become.
That is why you get the kind of representatives you get. Because when people shout from the hilltops while holding a Bible, some of you swear it is the second coming of Jesus.
Enough with the selective outrage.
Either self-enrichment is wrong or it is not. Either friends and family politics is wrong or it is not. Either conflicts of interest matter or they do not. But do not condemn one politician for it, then excuse another because he smiles nicely, speaks softly, quotes scripture and tells you he is a good man.
Good men can make bad decisions. Good men can be surrounded by bad handlers. Good men can exercise poor judgment. And good men, when placed in public office, must still be held accountable. Plain. Simple. Done.
The people need to stop acting like politics is a church testimony service. This is government. This is public money. These are public offices. These are decisions that affect all of us.
Wake up.
