GREAT BAY--The Windward Islands Bank (WIB) joined TamLeo Books’ Turn the Page, SXM initiative on Friday, September 4, with a special classroom reading that brought one of TamLeo’s stories to life in a meaningful way.

Rolando Tobias, General Manager of Retail Banking at WIB, visited a Grade 3 class at St. Joseph School to read The Banking Adventure of Mr. T, a TamLeo book inspired by Tobias himself.

The reading gave students the opportunity to not only enjoy the story, but to meet the real person behind its character, creating a connection between the pages of the book and someone from their own St. Maarten community.

The visit forms part of Turn the Page, SXM, TamLeo Books’ month-long Literacy Month initiative encouraging children to spend more time reading while inviting parents, teachers, schools, businesses and the wider community to play their part in nurturing young readers.

WIB’s participation reflects one of the central messages behind the campaign: raising readers takes a village. By volunteering his time to read directly with students, Tobias demonstrated how members of the community can contribute in simple but meaningful ways.

Throughout September, Turn the Page, SXM will continue through classroom and community Storytime sessions, The Great Book Stack Classroom Challenge and the Turn the Page Family Challenge.

The initiative forms part of wider efforts taking place across St. Maarten during Literacy Month, with TamLeo Books encouraging the community to continue making space for physical books, storytelling and meaningful reading experiences in children’s everyday lives.

One child. One story. One page at a time.
