Makayla Cooks selected for FCCA 2026 Young Women’s Mentorship Initiative

GREAT BAY--Makayla Cooks has been selected by the Florida-Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA) to participate in its 2026 Young Women’s Mentorship Initiative, following a competitive local nomination process conducted by the Ministry of Tourism, Economic Affairs, Traffic and Telecommunication (TEATT).

Minister of TEATT Grisha Heyliger-Marten congratulated Cooks on her selection, describing the opportunity as an important step in her personal and professional development.

The Ministry received 25 applications for the initiative. Thirteen candidates were invited to participate in a pitch round, six appeared before the Selection Committee, and three young women were ultimately nominated to the FCCA for final consideration. Following its independent review, the FCCA selected Cooks.

Cooks distinguished herself during the process through her creativity, confidence, communication skills and demonstrated leadership potential.

A recent HAVO graduate, she has gained experience in tourism, event planning and marketing through opportunities under the Government of St. Maarten BOP Program. The Minister also commended the young women who applied and participated in the selection process, noting that their ambition, courage and willingness to pursue new opportunities reflect the potential among St. Maarten’s young women.

The FCCA Young Women’s Mentorship Initiative gives participants access to mentorship from senior female leaders in the cruise industry, professional development, industry exposure, networking opportunities and insight into careers across tourism and cruising.
